After a week of film, fun and sun, the 2006 DIFF wrapped up its second year with success. With dozens of incredible screenings, late-night parties and opportunities to mingle with celebrities and filmmakers, it was hard to tear ourselves away from the Dominican Republic...

Stay tuned and forward this email to our friends and family for details in 2007! The Dominican International Film Festival, Dominican Republic. 2007 dates to be announced soon!

A big thank you to all who were involved with the 2006 festival. With 40 films from 14 countries in 7 languages, the second annual festival was a huge success!

We also extend a huge thank you to Anthony Anderson, Luc Picard, Dito Montiel, Judge Reinhold, Arturo Rodriguez and Cesar Rodriguez for their support.

Screening highlights during the jam-packed week of film, fun and sun include screenings of “Lovewrecked,” filmed at the resort; the gritty and emotional drama “A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints;” the heart-wrenching French-Canadian film “L’Audition;” and the enchanting Brazilian film “O Casamento de Romeu e Julieta.”

From the evening screenings throughout the week, hosted by our fabulous MC Cheese in the brand new open-air Theatre Lounge, DIFF pass holders went on to the night’s parties – the perfect night-cap to a day full of film! And did we ever drink and eat at the gorgeous pool-side party at the new Spa, a lavish Closing Night buffet on the Sonora Patio by the beach, and while standing in the waves listening to a live performance by Jon Poussete-Dart at Teddy’s Barbeque.

The week was completed with intimate panels held daily in the Aqua lounge. “Filmmaking in the DR,” hosted by Arturo Rodriguez, Cesar Rodriguez, Ramses Cairo and Felix Mauelo Lora covered the history and current climate of the Dominican Filmmaking community. “Real to Reel” with director Dito Montiel focused on converting real life experiences to film, and the challenges and rewards of working with big names. Luc Picard and Alexis Martin hosted a panel about their film “L’Audtion” and moving from actor to director, with special help from Henri, Luc’s five year-old son and co-star. We capped off the week with Blayne Weaver and Brandon Barrera’s “Shooting on a Shoestring.” The pair sold their house to finance the shooting of their hilarious comedy “Outside Sales.”
